What Is My Webby, And Why We Built It

picture of webby

My Webby builds websites for local businesses across the UK, using AI to do the heavy lifting so a plumber, hairdresser or gardener can get online quickly. If you've landed here asking "what is my webby", the short answer is this: we're a website service for small UK businesses who need a site that works, not a design project that drags on for months.

This page explains why we made it.

The problem we kept seeing

Talk to enough sole traders and small firms and the same story comes up again and again.

They get a quote for a website. It's a lot of money. The agency wants a brief, a brand workshop and three rounds of feedback. Six weeks later there's still nothing live. Or they try a DIY builder, spend two evenings dragging boxes around, and give up with a half-finished homepage.

Meanwhile the phone isn't ringing, and the customer who searched "electrician near me" has already called someone else.

The other common story is worse: the site exists, but nobody can change it. The person who built it has moved on. The login is lost. The prices on the page are two years old. That site is doing more harm than good.

What local businesses actually need

Most local businesses don't need anything fancy. They need:

  • Pages that say what they do and where they do it
  • A phone number and a contact form that works on a mobile
  • To show up when someone searches their trade and their town
  • Somewhere to put photos of finished jobs
  • The ability to change a price or add a service without ringing anyone

That's it. That's the brief for most of the country. We built around that, not around award-winning design.

What is My Webby in practice

We use AI to do the parts of website building that are repetitive: writing first drafts of pages, setting up the structure, sorting the technical basics. Then it gets checked by people who know what a local service website needs to say.

The result is a site that's built for your trade and your area, rather than a blank template you have to fill in yourself. You can see the process on our how it works page, and what's included on our features page.

We cover a wide range of trades and local services. There are pages for plumbers, electricians, hair salons, gardeners and plenty more, or you can look at who we can help to see if your line of work is on the list.

Changes without the hassle

One of the main reasons we built this was the "I can't change my own website" problem. Prices move. Services change. You stop doing boiler installs and start doing bathrooms. Your site needs to keep up.

So we made website changes part of how it works, rather than a favour you have to ask for.

Why price was part of it

The cost of a website in the UK varies wildly, and a lot of small businesses have no way of knowing whether a quote is fair. We've written about that on how much does a website cost, because we think people should be able to compare before they commit.

Our own numbers are on the pricing page. No quote form, no "book a discovery call to find out". You can read it and decide.

Why we didn't just point people at the big builders

The DIY platforms are fine tools. The issue is that they hand you a blank canvas and expect you to be a copywriter, a designer and an SEO at the same time, on a Sunday night, after a full day on site.

If you want to see the differences side by side, we've set them out on my webby vs wix, my webby vs squarespace and my webby vs godaddy. There's also a broader look at how we compare.

The short version: they sell you software. We hand you a finished website.

Getting found, not just getting online

A website nobody finds is a business card in a drawer. So local search is baked in rather than bolted on afterwards: pages built around the services you offer and the places you cover, clear contact details, and a structure search engines and AI assistants can read easily.

That matters more now that people ask a chatbot for a recommendation as often as they type into a search box. If your pages clearly state what you do, where you work and how to reach you, you're far more likely to be the business that gets named.

We also help with the bit after the click — enquiries landing somewhere you'll actually see them, so leads don't get lost between a form and an inbox.

Who it's not for

We'll be honest about this. If you want a hand-crafted brand identity, a custom booking engine or an online shop with a thousand products, we're not the right fit. Have a look at bespoke or get in touch and we'll say so.

The short answer

We made My Webby because getting a decent website shouldn't cost thousands, take months, or need you to learn a new skill. Local businesses are busy. The website should be the easy part.

If that sounds like what you've been after, read more about us or book a meeting with My Webby and we'll talk it through.
