Websites for accountants

What an accountant's website has to do

People look for an accountant at a moment of pressure. A sole trader has a tax return due, a company director wants someone to take over the books, or a landlord has been told about Making Tax Digital. They search, open three or four sites and ring the one that sounds like it understands their situation.

So the site says who you work with and what you do for them, in the words they use. Your services each get a page, your fees are explained as far as you're willing to, and a call or enquiry button is on every screen. Your accreditations sit where a nervous first-timer will see them.

Getting found for the accounting work you want more of

Nobody types accountancy services. They type self assessment help, accountant for limited company, bookkeeping for small business or landlord tax return, usually with a town on the end. A single services page can't match all of those.

You get a page for each service you want more of, such as self assessment, limited company accounts, VAT returns, payroll and bookkeeping, each written around the words people use for it. Titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured data go in when we build the site, so a search engine can see what you do and where.

What people check before they hand over their books

Accountancy is a trust purchase. Clients are giving you their income, their bank statements and access to their HMRC account, and they want to know who you are before they do. Anyone can call themselves an accountant, so the bodies you belong to matter: ICAEW, ACCA, AAT, CIMA or the tax institutes, whichever apply to you.

Your qualifications, your membership, your professional indemnity insurance and the fact that you're supervised for anti-money laundering go on the pages people read before they get in touch. Who they'll be dealing with, with a photo and a line about you, goes next to them.

How your accountancy website gets built

You answer a few questions about your practice, the services you want more of and the kind of clients you work for. A homepage design comes back, usually in under five minutes, and you look at it before anything else happens. There's no card and nothing to install.

That's a first draft, and from there we do the work. Your website specialist changes anything you want and builds every page: your home page, a page for each service, who you are and your accreditations. We check it on a phone and a laptop, then it goes live on your own domain.

Your website specialist stays with you afterwards, so a new service or a change to your opening hours is a message to them. You pay nothing until the site goes live.

What happens when somebody gets in touch

Every page has your number and an enquiry form. The form asks what you'd ask on a first call: whether they're a sole trader, a company or a landlord, what they need help with and when their deadline is. That tells you who to ring first.

The enquiry lands in your email within seconds. With the customer hub add-on it lands in your hub too, with a status you can set to contacted, won or lost, so you can see who is still waiting for a reply as the January deadline gets closer.

Accountants ask us

Will it come up when people search for "accountant near me"?

Your site launches with a page for each of your main services, written around what your clients type. We put the technical bits in too: titles, descriptions, structured data and a sitemap, so Google can see what you do and where. Where you end up depends on your area and your competition. The SEO and AI search add-on keeps adding new content every week, and it builds over months, not days. For enquiries in the weeks before a deadline, Google Ads puts you at the top, and Google Maps helps you show up on the map for accountant near me.

Can I show my ICAEW, ACCA or AAT membership?

Yes, and you should. Your membership, your qualifications and your professional indemnity insurance go on the pages people read before they get in touch. Your professional body will have its own rules about how its name and logo are used, so send your website specialist what you're entitled to show and they'll use it.

Do I need to say who supervises me for anti-money laundering?

Accountancy firms in the UK have to be supervised for anti-money laundering, either by HMRC or by a professional body. Plenty of firms say so on their site because clients ask. We can't tell you what your own rules require, but if you want it on the site, give your website specialist the wording and it goes where you like.

Can I put my fees on the website?

Yes, as much or as little as you want. Some practices list fixed prices for a tax return or a monthly bookkeeping package. Others say what a fee depends on and ask people to get in touch. Whichever you choose, a page that gives people an idea of cost gets more of the right enquiries than one that says nothing.

Is it worth a page on Making Tax Digital?

If you want more of that work, yes. Landlords and sole traders search for what it means for them and what they have to do, and a page that answers it in plain words shows them you're the person to ask. Your website specialist writes it with you, and you decide how much detail goes on it.

Can people send me their documents through the site?

Not as standard. The enquiry form takes a message and details, not bank statements or tax records. A secure place for clients to upload documents is a bespoke build, so tell us what you need and we'll talk it through with you.

I only take clients by recommendation. Do I need a website?

Most recommendations get checked. Someone is told your name, searches for it and decides whether to ring based on what they find. A clear site with your qualifications, your services and a contact form turns that check into an enquiry, and it keeps working for the people who haven't met anyone you know.

Can I change the site when the tax year changes?

Yes. Send your website specialist the new deadline, the new fee or the new wording and they'll put it on properly. That's a change request. You get one free every month after launch, and any more are £49.99 each, shown before you confirm.

What should a one-person practice start with?

The website. You get a professional site with a page for each service you want more of and your own domain, and a business email address is added per mailbox. Add the customer hub when you want your enquiries in one place. Review requests are coming soon.

How long until my website is live?

Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most accountants are live within a week of signing up.

When do I start paying?

On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.

Is this a template?

No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.

Do I need a card to see the design?

No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.

Can I have a page for each job I do?

Yes, for the jobs you want more of. Tell your website specialist which those are. Each one gets its own page, written to be found for the words people type when they need it. Every plan includes up to 10, one for each service you offer, and you can ask for a new one from your portal at any time.
