Websites for opticians

What an optician website has to do

Most people book an eye test because a reminder landed, their glasses broke or work asked for one. They look up the practice nearest to them, check it's open when they're free and book on their phone. A practice that makes them ring in office hours loses to the one that lets them pick a time.

So online booking sits at the centre of the site, with the tests you offer behind it: the eye test, the contact lens check, the children's test. You set your hours and how long each appointment runs, and patients book into what's left.

Getting found for eye tests and glasses in your area

People search for eye test, children's eye test, contact lens check, designer glasses or sunglasses with a prescription, and then a town. Some are comparing practices, and some just want the nearest one open on a Saturday.

You get a page for each test and range you want more of, written around those words. Titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured data go in when the site is built, so a search engine can see what you offer and where the practice is.

What people want to know before they come in

Patients want to know what a test costs, whether they qualify for an NHS-funded one, how long it takes and whether they can bring their child or their parent. Say it on the page and the booking arrives without a phone call to ask.

Registration goes on the site too. Optometrists and dispensing opticians are registered with the General Optical Council, and practices can be too, so your numbers belong where a new patient will see them, along with the practice address, parking and step-free access.

How your optician website gets built

You answer a few questions about your practice, the tests you offer and your opening hours. A homepage design comes back in under five minutes with online booking in it. You look at it first, with no card and nothing to install.

Then one of our website specialists builds it out with you: your tests and prices, your frames and lens ranges, your registration, your address and your hours, checked on a phone and a laptop and then live on your own domain. A new range or a new price is a message afterwards. You pay nothing until the site goes live.

What happens when somebody books

The patient picks the test and a time, and the booking screen only offers slots that fit. A children's test and a contact lens check can run different lengths, and the diary knows it. You both get a confirmation email.

The booking form can ask whether they wear glasses or contact lenses and when they last had a test, so you're ready when they walk in. Your week shows in your portal as a list and a calendar, and moving an appointment takes a click and emails the patient.

Opticians ask us

How does the booking actually work?

You set the hours the practice is open and how long each test takes, and patients pick a slot on your website. You confirm it or move it in a click, and they get a confirmation email either way. There's nothing to install and no fee per booking.

Can the site say who qualifies for an NHS-funded test?

Yes. If you provide NHS-funded sight tests, the page can say so in plain words, and your website specialist writes it from what you tell them about who you see. Eligibility is set by the NHS, so we'll use your wording and the NHS pages it comes from.

Where does my GOC registration go?

On the pages a new patient reads before they book, and in the footer of every page. Optometrists and dispensing opticians are registered with the General Optical Council, and practices can be too, so the numbers go where people look for them.

Can I show my frames and lens ranges?

Yes. Your website specialist builds a page for each range you want more of, with your own photographs, so a patient can see what you stock before they come in. Tell them the makes and the words you want them found for.

Can people order glasses or contact lenses on the site?

Taking orders and payment on the site is a bespoke build, so it isn't part of the standard plans. Tell us what you need and we'll talk it through with you.

Can a children's test have its own page?

Yes, and it's often worth one. A parent searching for a child's eye test wants to know how you put a child at ease and whether it takes long, and they type different words from an adult booking a contact lens check.

Can I list the tests with different lengths and prices?

Yes. A standard test, a contact lens check and a children's test can each have their own length and price, and the booking screen keeps your diary right because it knows how long each one really takes.

What do I need for the booking system?

The customer hub add-on. The booking system and your enquiries live in it, and Google review requests are coming soon. It's monthly with no minimum term.

How long until my website is live?

Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most opticians are live within a week of signing up.

When do I start paying?

On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.

Is this a template?

No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.

Do I need a card to see the design?

No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.

Can I have a page for each job I do?

Yes, for the jobs you want more of. Tell your website specialist which those are. Each one gets its own page, written to be found for the words people type when they need it. Every plan includes up to 10, one for each service you offer, and you can ask for a new one from your portal at any time.
