Websites for car garages
What a garage's website has to do
People book a garage for a reason that has a date on it. The MOT runs out on the 14th, the service light has come on or the car is making a noise. They're choosing between three garages on a phone at lunchtime, and the one that lets them pick a day without ringing back gets the job.
So MOT and service booking goes in the middle of the site, with the work you do behind it. The customer chooses a day, gives their registration and says what the car needs, and you see the booking in your portal. Who you are, where you are and what you charge go around it.
Getting found for MOTs, servicing and repairs
People type MOT near me, MOT with a town name, car service, cambelt replacement, clutch replacement, brake pads, air con regas or a diagnostic for a warning light. Each is a different job with a different customer, and one page headed car repairs matches none of them well.
You get a page for each job you want more of, written around the words people type for it. Page titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured data go in when we build it, so a search engine can see what you do and where you are.
Approvals, warranties and what a driver wants to see
If you're an MOT testing station, you're authorised by the DVSA, and the MOT fee is capped by law, so say that you test and what you charge. Show any scheme you belong to, such as the Good Garage Scheme or TrustMyGarage, and whether you're signed up to the Motor Ombudsman code. Say only what you hold.
Drivers also ask whether a service at an independent garage affects their new car warranty. Under the vehicle block exemption rules, a service by an independent garage that follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses parts of matching quality should not invalidate it. Say what you do and the parts you use, in plain words, and have your website specialist put it on the service page.
How your garage website gets built
You answer a few questions about your garage, the work you do and the hours you open. A homepage design comes back in under five minutes with MOT and service booking in it. You look at it first, with no card and nothing to install.
Then one of our website specialists builds it out with you: your MOT and service pages, your prices, your approvals, your address and your opening hours, checked on a phone and a laptop, then live on your own domain. After that, a new price or a new service is a message to them. You pay nothing until the site goes live.
What happens when somebody books in
They pick MOT, service or another job, choose a day and give their registration and a phone number. The booking screen only offers days and times that fit what you can fit in, so a full service is never booked into the slot for an MOT. You both get a confirmation email.
The booking can ask the things you'd ask on the phone: the make and model, whether a warning light is on and whether they need a courtesy car. Your week shows in your portal as a list and a calendar, and moving a booking takes a click and emails the customer.
Car garages ask us
How does MOT and service booking actually work?
You set the days you're open and how much work you can take in each, and customers pick a day on your website. They give their registration and a phone number, you confirm it or move it in a click, and they get a confirmation email either way. There's nothing to install and no fee per booking.
Can the booking tell an MOT from a full service?
Yes. Each job has its own length and its own number you can take per day, so an MOT, an interim service and a full service don't fight over the same slot. The booking screen knows how long each one really takes, and your week stays right.
Can the site show that we're an MOT test centre?
Yes. If you're an authorised testing station, say so on the MOT page with the fee you charge, and add any scheme you belong to, such as the Good Garage Scheme or TrustMyGarage. Your website specialist puts it where a driver looks, and only if it's true.
Will servicing at an independent garage void a new car warranty?
Not if the service follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses parts of matching quality, under the vehicle block exemption rules. Your service page can say what you follow and which parts you use. We aren't giving warranty advice, so check the terms of a particular warranty with its provider.
Can drivers get a price before they book?
You decide. A set price for an MOT or an interim service can go on the page, and a booking form can ask for the make and model so you can quote a full service or a clutch by phone. Your website specialist can add a short price guide for the jobs you're happy to price.
Can I take a deposit or payment online?
Taking payment on the site is a bespoke build, so it isn't part of the standard plans. Tell us what you need and we'll talk it through with you. Most garages take payment on collection, and the booking works without it.
What do I need for the booking system?
The customer hub add-on. The booking system and your enquiries live in it, and Google review requests are coming soon. It's monthly with no minimum term.
Can the site say when the MOT is due?
The booking form can ask for the date the MOT runs out, and that arrives with the booking. A page that explains that you can have an MOT up to a month, less a day, before it runs out and keep the same renewal date is worth having, as plenty of drivers search for it. Tell your website specialist and they'll write it.
How long until my website is live?
Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most car garages are live within a week of signing up.
When do I start paying?
On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.
Is this a template?
No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.
Do I need a card to see the design?
No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.
Can I have a page for each job I do?
Yes, for the jobs you want more of. Tell your website specialist which those are. Each one gets its own page, written to be found for the words people type when they need it. Every plan includes up to 10, one for each service you offer, and you can ask for a new one from your portal at any time.
