Websites for dog walkers and pet sitters

What a dog walker's website has to do

People hand over their keys and their dog, so they need to trust you before they book. They search on a phone, often from work, and they want to know if you cover their street, which walks you offer, what a walk costs and whether you're insured.

So booking goes near the top of the site, with your walks and visits behind it, and who you are goes beside it: your photo, your dogs, your experience. You set the days and times you work, and clients book into what's left.

Getting found for the service you want more of

People search for dog walker, dog walking near me, pet sitter, cat sitting, dog boarding or puppy visits, nearly always with a town or a postcode area on the end. A single page about everything you do won't match those searches well.

You get a page for each service you want more of, written around the words people use for it, and for the areas you cover. Titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured data go in when the site is built, so Google can see what you offer and where.

Insurance, checks and licences, said plainly

Owners want to see your pet business insurance, usually public liability with cover for animals in your care, custody and control. If you have a DBS check, or first aid training for pets, say so, and state the date it was done. A DBS check isn't a legal requirement for dog walking, but some clients like to see one.

If you board dogs in your home, or run day care at your house, you need a licence from your local council in England under the animal activities licensing rules, and the licence and star rating are worth showing. Ask your council which applies to you, then put the answer on the page.

How your dog walking website gets built

You answer a few questions about your business, the walks and visits you offer and the areas you cover. A homepage design comes back in under five minutes with online booking in it. You look at it first, with no card and nothing to install.

Then one of our website specialists builds it out with you: your services, your prices, your insurance and licence details, your meet and greet, checked on a phone and a laptop, then live on your own domain. After that, a new service or a price change is just a message. You pay nothing until the site goes live.

What happens when somebody books

The client picks the walk or the visit and a time, and the booking screen only offers what you have free. They tell you their dog's name, breed and anything you should know, like a dog that pulls or doesn't like other dogs. You both get a confirmation email.

Your week shows in your portal as a list and a calendar. If a walk has to move because of the weather or a poorly dog, moving it takes a click and emails the client.

Dog walkers and pet sitters ask us

How does the booking actually work?

You set the days and times you're free and how long each walk or visit takes, and clients pick a slot on your website. You confirm it or move it in a click, and they get a confirmation email either way. There's nothing to install and no fee per booking.

Can I show my insurance and my DBS check?

Yes, and it helps. Your website specialist puts your pet business insurance, your DBS check if you have one and any first aid training on the page a client reads before booking. We don't tell you what you need to hold, only show what you do.

I board dogs at my house. What do I show?

If you board or run day care at home, the council in England issues a licence and you should show it. Your website specialist puts the licence number, the council and your rating on your boarding page. Check with your own council which licence applies to you, as we can't advise on that.

Can clients tell me about their dog when they book?

Yes. The booking form can ask for the dog's name, breed, age, vet, whether they are good with other dogs and how to get in. The answers arrive with the booking. If you need more than that, tell your website specialist and they'll talk it through with you.

Can I ask for a meet and greet before the first walk?

Yes. A meet and greet can be a booking of its own, with its own length, and the site can say new clients need one first. It gives you a look at the house, the lead and the dog before you take the keys.

What do I do about walks I have to cancel for weather or illness?

Moving a booking takes a click in your portal, and the client gets an email with the new time. Your cancellation terms go on the site in your own words, so clients know what happens either way.

Can clients pay online when they book?

Taking payment on the site is a bespoke build, so it isn't part of the standard plans. Tell us what you need and we'll talk it through with you.

What do I need for the booking system?

The customer hub add-on. The booking system and your enquiries live in it, and Google review requests are coming soon. It's monthly with no minimum term.

I cover a few villages around me. How does the site show that?

The villages and postcodes go on the site in plain text and on a page of their own, which also helps people searching with a village name. If somebody outside your area books, the form can ask for their postcode first.

How long until my website is live?

Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most dog walkers and pet sitters are live within a week of signing up.

When do I start paying?

On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.

Is this a template?

No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.

Do I need a card to see the design?

No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.

Can I have a page for each job I do?

Yes, for the jobs you want more of. Tell your website specialist which those are. Each one gets its own page, written to be found for the words people type when they need it. Every plan includes up to 10, one for each service you offer, and you can ask for a new one from your portal at any time.
