What a counsellor's website has to do

Someone looking for a counsellor is often doing it quietly, late in the evening, after weeks of deciding to. They're not comparing prices so much as deciding whether you feel like a person they could talk to. A cold, vague site loses them. A warm, clear one gets a booking.

So the site says who you work with, how you work and what a first session is like, in plain words. Your fees, your hours and a way to book sit on every screen, so the step from reading to booking is small.

Getting found for the work you want more of

People type counsellor near me, anxiety therapy, couples counselling, CBT therapist or grief counselling, often with a town on the end. Some search for the kind of help, others for the approach.

What happens when somebody books

Clients choose a session length and a slot from the hours you set, and the booking screen offers only what you have free. You both get a confirmation email, with the address or the online link where you want it.

Keep what the booking form asks short. A name, contact details and the type of session are enough, and what someone is struggling with is better said in the room. Your week shows in your portal as a list and a calendar, and moving a session takes a click and emails the client.

How does the booking actually work?

You set the hours you're free and how long each session lasts, and clients pick a slot on your website. You confirm it or move it in a click, and they get a confirmation email either way. There's nothing to install and no fee per booking.

Can I show my BACP, UKCP or NCPS membership?

Yes, and you should, because counselling isn't regulated by law and people look for that sign. Your training, your registration and your insurance go on the page a client reads before booking. Your professional body will have its own rules about how its name and logo are used, so send your website specialist what you're entitled to show.

What should the website say about confidentiality?

Say it plainly: what stays between you and a client and the limits you work within. Your website specialist puts your wording on the page. The site also has a privacy notice for the details people send through the booking form. Check with your professional body what you need to say about how you hold client information.

Can I offer a free introductory call?

Yes. It can be a separate booking type with its own length, so people can book twenty minutes with you before committing to a full session, and your diary keeps the right amount of time for it.

I see clients online as well as in a room. Does that work?

Yes. The site says where you see people, and the booking asks which they prefer. Your confirmation email gives the address or says that you'll send the link. The video call itself runs on whatever you already use.

Can clients tell me what they're struggling with when they book?

The booking form can ask a short question if you want one, and the answer arrives with the booking. Many counsellors keep the form to a name, contact details and session type, and talk about the rest in the room. Tell your website specialist how much you want asked.

What do I need for the booking system?

The customer hub add-on. The booking system and your enquiries live in it, and Google review requests are coming soon. It's monthly with no minimum term.

Can I take payment for sessions on the site?

Taking payment on the site is a bespoke build, so it isn't part of the standard plans. Many therapists take payment at the session or by bank transfer. If you want it on the site, tell us what you need and we'll talk it through with you.

How long until my website is live?

Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most counsellors and therapists are live within a week of signing up.

When do I start paying?

On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.

Is this a template?

No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.

Do I need a card to see the design?

No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.

Can I have a page for each job I do?
