Websites for handymen
What a handyman's website has to do
A handyman is hired for a list. Somebody has a shelf to put up, a door that sticks, a tap washer, a fence panel and a flat pack wardrobe, and wants one person to turn up and clear the lot. They don't know the trade word for any of it.
So your site says what you do in plain words, shows a range of jobs and makes it easy to send a list. Your number and an enquiry form sit on every screen, and your area and your day rate or hourly rate go where a customer can see them before they ring.
Getting found for odd jobs in your area
People type handyman near me, odd job man, flat pack assembly, TV wall mounting or door repair, usually with a town on the end. One page headed handyman services won't match most of those.
You get a page for each job you want more of, written around those words. The titles, descriptions, sitemap and structured data go in when the site is built, so a search engine can see what you do and where you work. With the SEO add-on we put a new article up every week and link it back to those pages.
Why customers hesitate, and what settles it
People are letting one person into the house to do a lot of small jobs, often while they're at work. They want to know you're insured, that you'll tell them what a job costs before you start and what you won't do.
So your public liability cover goes on the page, along with how you charge: by the hour, by the day or a price per job. Say plainly what you leave to a registered tradesperson, such as gas work, and customers read it as honesty. Reviews and photos of finished jobs sit beside it.
How your handyman website gets built
You answer a few questions about your business, the jobs you take and the areas you cover. A homepage design comes back, usually in under five minutes, and you look at it before anything else happens. There's no card and nothing to install.
Then one of our website specialists builds it out with you: a page for each job, your rates, your insurance and your reviews, checked on a phone and a laptop, then live on your own domain. After that, a new job type or a change of price is a message to them. You pay nothing until the site goes live.
What happens when somebody gets in touch
Your enquiry form can ask for the list. A customer types the jobs one by one, adds a photo of the door or the fence and says when suits, so you can see whether it's a morning or a week before you reply.
The enquiry lands in your email within seconds. With the customer hub add-on it lands in your hub too, with a status you set to contacted, won or lost, so nobody's list gets forgotten between jobs.
Handymen ask us
I do a bit of everything. How do you build a site for that?
Around the jobs you want more of. You tell your website specialist which ones, and each gets its own page, because people search for flat pack assembly or fence repair, not for everything at once. The rest goes in a plain list on your home page.
Will it come up for "handyman near me"?
Your site launches with a page for each of your main jobs, written around what your customers type. We put the technical bits in too: titles, descriptions, structured data and a sitemap, so Google can see what you do and where. Where you end up depends on your area and your competition, and it builds over months. Google Maps helps you show up on the map, and Google Ads puts you at the top when you want calls straight away.
Can customers send me a list of jobs?
Yes. The enquiry form can ask for the jobs, a photo of each if they have one and when suits them. That's usually enough to say whether it's half a day or two, and to give a price before you visit.
Should I put my prices on the site?
It's your choice. Some handymen show an hourly or day rate and a minimum call-out, which stops time wasters and starts better conversations. Others say quotes are free and give a price per job. Tell your website specialist which suits you and it goes on the page.
Can I say what I won't do?
Yes, and it helps. Gas work has to be done by someone on the Gas Safe Register, and some electrical work has to meet the Building Regulations. If you pass those jobs on, the site can say so, and customers trust a handyman who knows where to stop.
Can the site show before and after photos?
Yes. Send your website specialist the photos and a line about each job and they go on properly, sized and captioned. That's a change request. You get one free every month after launch, and any more are £49.99 each, shown before you confirm.
I work alone and my phone is always in my pocket. Is that a problem?
No. The enquiry lands in your email within seconds, and customers who can't get through can leave a message with the job and a time. With the customer hub add-on it lands in your hub too, so you can answer them in order at the end of the day.
How much of my time does the site take?
About two minutes to answer the questions. Then your website specialist does the rest and calls you when it's ready. Most handymen are live within a week of signing up.
How long until my website is live?
Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most handymen are live within a week of signing up.
When do I start paying?
On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.
Is this a template?
No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.
Do I need a card to see the design?
No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.
Can I have a page for each job I do?
Yes, for the jobs you want more of. Tell your website specialist which those are. Each one gets its own page, written to be found for the words people type when they need it. Every plan includes up to 10, one for each service you offer, and you can ask for a new one from your portal at any time.
