Websites for bookkeepers

What a bookkeeper website has to do

People look for a bookkeeper when the receipts have piled up, the VAT return is due or they've just been told to keep digital records. They're not in a hurry to pick the cheapest. They want to know you'll do it right and that you're the sort of person they can hand it over to.

So the site says what you do in plain words: the monthly bookkeeping, the VAT returns, the payroll, the tidy-up of a year's mess. A short enquiry form asks what they need and which software they use, and you reply with a quote.

Getting found for the bookkeeping people search for

Clients type bookkeeper near me, VAT return help, payroll for a small business, Xero bookkeeper or catch-up bookkeeping, usually with a town on the end. Many want someone local, even though the work is done on screen.

You get a page for each service you want more of and each piece of software you work in, written around those words. Titles, descriptions, a sitemap and structured data go in when the site is built, so a search engine can see what you do and who you do it for.

What a new client needs to see before they trust you

You're about to see their bank statements, so trust comes first. Bookkeeping isn't a regulated title, so people look for proof: your membership of a professional body such as the AAT, ICB or IAB, your professional indemnity insurance, and how you handle their data.

If you offer accountancy services you must also be supervised for anti-money laundering, and your data protection registration with the ICO belongs on the site where people look. Your website specialist puts these in plain words and doesn't give legal advice.

How your bookkeeping website gets built

You answer a few questions about your practice, the services you want more of and the clients you suit best. A homepage design comes back in under five minutes. You look at it first, with no card and nothing to install.

Then one of our website specialists builds it out with you: a page for each service, a page for each piece of software, your memberships and insurance, all checked on a phone and a laptop and then live on your own domain. A new service is a message afterwards. You pay nothing until the site goes live.

What happens when somebody gets in touch

Every page has your number and an enquiry form. The form asks what you'd ask on a first call: the type of business, how many transactions a month, the software they use and what they need doing. You tell your website specialist which questions to ask.

The enquiry lands in your email within seconds. With the customer hub add-on it lands in your hub too, with a status you can set to contacted, won or lost, so you can see who is still waiting for your quote.

Bookkeepers ask us

Will it actually rank for "bookkeeper near me"?

Your site launches with a page for each of your main services, written around what your clients type. We put the technical bits in too: titles, descriptions, structured data and a sitemap, so Google can see what you do and where. Where you end up depends on your area and your competition. The SEO and AI search add-on keeps adding new content every week, and it builds over months, not days.

I get all my clients by word of mouth. Do I need this?

A website helps word of mouth work. Somebody told to ring you looks you up first, and a clear page with your membership and your services is what turns a recommendation into an enquiry. It also catches the people nobody has recommended you to yet.

Can I show my AAT, ICB or IAB membership?

Yes. Bookkeeping isn't a regulated title, so your professional body, your insurance and your supervision details are what a new client looks for. Your website specialist puts them where people read before they get in touch.

Should each piece of software have its own page?

Usually, yes. Somebody who already uses Xero searches for a Xero bookkeeper, not a bookkeeper, and a page written for them answers the question they asked. Tell your website specialist which software you work in.

Can clients upload their receipts and statements to the site?

A client area for sharing files securely is a bespoke build, so it isn't part of the standard plans. Most bookkeepers use their accounting software for this. If you need something on the site, tell us and we'll talk it through with you.

Can I put my fees on the site?

Yes, if you want to. Some bookkeepers list a monthly price by size of business and some say fees are quoted after a first call. Either goes on the page, and your website specialist can change it whenever you ask.

Can the enquiry form ask what I need to quote?

Yes. It can ask the type of business, how many transactions a month, whether they're VAT registered and which software they use, so you can quote without a second call. Your website specialist sets the questions up with you before launch.

Can I add a service later?

Yes. Up to 10 service pages come with your website, one for each service you offer. Ask from your portal whenever you like and it goes to your website specialist to write. Tell them the service and the words you want it found for.

How long until my website is live?

Complete your brief and we launch within 3 to 5 working days. Most bookkeepers are live within a week of signing up.

When do I start paying?

On the day your website goes live. You enter card details at signup, but nothing is charged before launch. If your site is ready and we do not hear from you for 14 days, we take the first payment, so your website specialist's work is not left sitting there. You can still go live whenever you are ready.

Is this a template?

No. Everything is built from scratch for your business: your words written, your logo and colours designed, your homepage laid out. One of our website specialists finishes the site with you before it goes live.

Do I need a card to see the design?

No. Answer a few questions and you will see a homepage design for your business in under five minutes. There is nothing to download, nothing to set up, and no card until you decide to go ahead.

Can I have a page for each job I do?

Yes, for the jobs you want more of. Tell your website specialist which those are. Each one gets its own page, written to be found for the words people type when they need it. Every plan includes up to 10, one for each service you offer, and you can ask for a new one from your portal at any time.
